NFL.com analyst Elliot Harrison ranked all 32 NFL head coaches, and Seattle Seahawks longtime coach Pete Carroll came in second – just behind New England’s Bill Belichick.
Harrison praises Carroll not just for his Super Bowl win and his playoff streak from 2012-2016, but for the work he did with the 2018 team.
“Few folks had the Seahawks making it to the postseason,” Harrison wrote about last season’s squad. “Not only did they make the playoffs, but they gave the Cowboys quite a game in the Wild Card Round, too. While there was quite a bit of consternation in the Seattle bloggerverse centering around the Seahawks’ play-calling in that contest, that ain’t Carroll’s area. The playoff loss also obscured what a fine season the Seahawks had sans the stars of recent vintage, and flying past the 6-10 season so many prognosticated for the team. The team’s 2018 season was yet another testament to Carroll’s ability to motivate, as well as manage in-game situations. Far more impressive is his energy in maintaining a positive atmosphere around a team that has enjoyed (endured?) its share of robust personalities over the years.”
Carroll has been the coach of the Seahawks since the 2010 season. They have gone 89-54-1 in that time, making the playoffs in seven out of nine seasons and of course appearing in the Super Bowl twice.
Carroll and the Seahawks will look to make their eight playoff appearance of the decade this season, and the fun begins on July 25 when they report for training camp.
