DETROIT — People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is offering up to a $5,000 reward for information on the deaths of at least 17 swans found near Maceday Lake in Oakland County since January.
Dead swans have been found floating in the lake or on the shoreline, a PETA news release said. A necropsy performed on one of them found the bird died from poisoning, possibly antifreeze.
The agency is working with local police to find who is responsible, the release said.
PETA said it has no leads yet, which is why it is asking for the community’s help "before more swans are killed.”
Anyone with information on this case is asked to call PETA’s Report All Poaching hotline at (800) 292-7800.
