Pet Shop Boys absent from Brits It's A Sin performance over 'unresolvable contract issue'

Pet Shop Boys withdrew from the Brits performance of It's A Sin with just days to go, with reports blaming 'creative differences', but the band themselves saying it was down to a contract issue that couldn't be resolved.

The classic song was originally a hit for Tyneside born singer Neil Tennant and musical partner in crime Chris Lowe in 1987 and, more recently, gave it's name to a hit Channel 4 drama about the AIDs epidemic of the 1980s.

The show's star, Years & Years singer Olly Alexander joined Elton John at the Brit Awards on Tuesday night to perform It's A Sin, with fans at home blown away by their duet and championing it as one of the stand out moments of the night.

However, it could have been even better as the Pet Shop Boys, who famously collaborated with Lady Gaga and Brandon Flowers at the event in 2009, were due to be there as well, before withdrawing last Friday.

The Sun claimed that their absence was down were "creative differences," over the direction of the performance, however the band themselves have said the no-show was down to a contractual issue that could not be resolved.

On Wednesday night a representative for Pet Shop Boys posted on Facebook to say: "It’s true that Pet Shop Boys had been asked to be part of the performance of their song It’s A Sin and that they co- produced the new version for the Brits with their long-term producer Stuart Price.

"It’s not true that creative differences led to them not appearing.

"The staging and casting ideas were approved by PSB along with Olly and Elton.

"The non-appearance of PSB was ultimately due to a contractual issue that proved unresolvable and about which there will be no further comment."
