A premium pet shop and grooming salon in Clifton is closing down, less than a year after opening.
B.A.R.C Clifton is run by Bristol Animal Rescue Centre and was launched in February to support the work of the organisation, with profits from it going back into the charity.
The Portland Street site stocks a range of high-end clothing and accessories for pets and is home to its own grooming salon.
But it will close on December 22, resulting in the loss of four jobs just before Christmas, because it was not able to recruit enough members of grooming staff, a spokesperson told Bristol Live.
They said: "We are sad to announce the closure of our B.A.R.C. Clifton shop.
"Our aim was to provide a range of high quality, cruelty free pet goods and accessories underpinned by a top notch grooming service using only cruelty free products.
"Unfortunately, although we were well supported by the public, we have only been able to recruit a third of the grooming staff we needed.
"Our grooming service was a key part of our business plan, without the expert staff to meet demand we have very sadly had to take the decision to close the Clifton shop.
"Over the past year we have enjoyed being part of the Clifton community and are very grateful to our fantastic shop team of staff and volunteers for all their hard work – and to all of our lovely customers and their owners for their support."
Bristol Animal Rescue Centre was formed in 1887 and is based on Albert Road, St Philips.
The charity will continue its work helping, healing and homing animals despite the shop closure.
