An Australian man survived a fire that destroyed his Queensland home on Tuesday night after his pet parrot screeched his name to alert him to the blaze. Anton Nguyen was asleep when a fire broke out in his home in the city of Brisbane, local media reported.

According to the German News Agency, the parrot squawked "Anton! Anton!" many times to alert his owner to the danger.

The man said he woke up, smelled a bit of smoke, and then grabbed the parrot, opened the door, and looked to the back of the house and saw some flames.

When the emergency crews arrived, the house was "well engulfed" in flames. They were able to extinguish the fire eventually, and an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the blaze.
