Pet owners "heartbroken" as six cats go missing from one Helensburgh street

Devastated pet owners have appealed for information after six cats went missing from one street.

The cats have all disappeared from Dennistoun Crescent in Helensburgh within the last four weeks.

Their distraught owners are urging residents to be vigilant and to let them know if they see anything suspicious.

A note they have shared reads: “We are very concerned that something sinister is going on, as it is highly unusual for so many cats to disappear in such a. short space of time and from within such a small area.

“Each of these cats is a much-loved family pet and all six are greatly missed by their heartbroken families.

“We are asking all local residents to be extra vigilant and to let us know if they see anything unusual or anyone acting suspiciously, as it could provide an important lead.

“We are particularly concerned that these cats may have been snatched, which is both upsetting and worrying and not what we expect in our quiet neighbourhood.”

All six have disappeared from the part of the street between Craigendoran Station and the junction of Lawrence Avenue near Waitrose.

Scottish SPCA chief superintendent Mike Flynn asked everyone in the area to check their garages and sheds.

He said: “We’re sorry to hear about the missing cats in Helensburgh. We know how concerning and stressful this must be for the owners.

“We would ask everyone in the area to please check sheds, garages and outhouses to make sure cats have not been trapped in there accidentally.

“A search of the local area should also be undertaken to make sure there are no pits, holes or anywhere that cats may get trapped and not be able to get out.

“We would also remind people to dispose of any toxic substance, such as antifreeze, responsibly.

“If anyone has any information, or believes there to be a welfare issue, then we would urge them to contact our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999.”
