Pet mauled to death in park by out-of-control dogs as owners 'nowhere to be seen'

A pet dog was allegedly mauled to death by two out-of-control Staffordshire Bull terriers running loose in a park.

Police were called to the gruesome incident at Lyme Valley park, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire.

Members of the public alerted officers after spotting the Staffies savagely attacking the other pooch early on Sunday morning (May 19).

It is understood the Staffies' owners were nowhere to be seen during the incident at around 6.35am, StokeonTrentLive reports

Officers attended the scene and were able to detain the Staffies. It has been confirmed that the other dog died of its injuries.

The owners of the Staffies were later traced and they will be interviewed.

It is believed one of the Staffies was  brindle, while the other was black and white.

One woman said: "They were running loose in Lyme Valley and police were trying to find the owner after an incident there."

Now Staffordshire Police is asking witnesses to come forward.

A spokesman said: "We were called to a report of a dog being attacked by two other dogs on Lyme Valley Park at around 6.35am on Sunday, May 19.

"The dog sadly died as a result of its injuries and the other two dogs were safely detained.

"Officers have identified the owners of the two dogs and will be voluntarily interviewing them in due course.

"Anyone with information about the incident is asked to get in touch."
