Pet greyhound badly injured after 'nasty' dogs let off leads in Henbury

A family pet has been badly injured by a pack of dogs let off their leads in north Bristol.

Andy Kruger, 55, told Bristol Live his partner Linda Stadon was walking their two dogs in a park yesterday evening (October 14).

But Mrs Stadon, 50, was horrified when a group of teenagers let their dogs run loose and attack her nine-year-old greyhound Breezy.

Airbus employee Mr Kruger said: “It happened to a dog but I’m more concerned it could be a child.”

The attack, which led to emergency vet treatment costing £1,500, took place in a park off Hallen Road and Marissal Road in Henbury at around 7.30pm.

Mr Kruger said: “She [Mrs Stadon] was three-quarters of the way round and heard one of the gates open and the guys let their dogs off the lead. In fairness to them, I don’t know if they saw her.

“The position she was in, she was behind a tree or a bush, so she couldn’t shout out to them.”

Mr Kruger said four or five teenagers were with four dogs - three of which were thought to be Staffordshire Bull Terriers and the other believed to be a Rottweiler.

When the dogs attacked Breezy, they left her with a “very badly injured” left-front leg which was “ripped apart”, according to Mr Kruger, who said his other dog managed to escape harm.

Mr Kruger said his partner returned home terrified, prompting him to go out looking for the boys in a fit of rage, but he could not find them.

“I was more worried that it could be a child [injured] next time,” said Mr Kruger, adding: “They [Staffies] are a nasty type of dog and they should be kept on a lead.”

Mr Kruger said his two dogs were both rescues.
