Pet cat found skewered, burned and on top of disposable barbecue in alleyway

Horrific photos show a cat’s charred body after being skewered, burned and left on top of a disposable barbecue.

The pet was found near a strip of shops in an alleyway off Beckett Road, Wheatley, in Doncaster, on Thursday morning, with the RSPCA appealing for information.

Tamsin Drysdale, an inspector for the charitable organisation, said: “The person who found the cat said she had a skewer through her body and was laying on the top of a disposable barbecue.

“She was so badly burned it isn’t possible to be sure what colour her fur was.

“We don’t know whether this happened while the cat was alive or dead, but I suspect, and very much hope, it was the latter."

Ms Drysdale said the animal, a female, was microchipped - though there was no name on the chip - and she was able to track down the person registered as the pet owner.

However, they told her it had been re-homed a couple of years ago and they couldn't tell who to.

Ms Drysdale urged anyone with information to call the RSPCA appeal line on 0300 123 8018.

She said: “Did you see something? Did you hear something? Do you know who the cat might have belonged to?

"Someone out there could be looking for and missing this cat and I am very keen to find her current owner."

The RSPCA is continuing an emergency service through the lockdown period.
