PES to become a free-to-play game after Konami rebranding

Pro Evolution Soccer - or PES as it has more commonly known to many gamers - has been viewed as a competitor to the FIFA gaming franchise over the years.

However, a drastic change in rebranding means the series will now be known as eFootball.

And that's not the only drastic change as it will also be free-to-play.

The game will be available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and PC this August - with iOS and Android versions to follow.

Series producer Seitaro Kumara said a different approach will be taken with regular updates to the game - yearly updates for each new season will be free.

eFootball will launch free with exhibition matches which will allow players to choose from nine clubs initially.

Other modes will be sold as optional DLC giving the player creative freedom of what they want in their game.

Details have not yet been released on how the game's career mode will operate in this new incarnation.

Konami said it will reveal more specific details next month, but it did mention "Motion Matching" will be implemented in eFootball.

This "converts the vast range of movements that players make on the pitch into a series of animations, selecting the most accurate one in real-time," Konami said.

"The system provides more than four times as many animations as before, achieving highly realistic movement," Konami continued.

"Motion Matching will be utilised across all eFootball platforms, including last-gen consoles, PCs and mobile."

Konami published a roadmap image that lays out more details of what players can expect to be rolledout for eFootball.
