Perverted former shisha bar boss admits to road traffic offences

The perverted former boss of a shisha bar has admitted a string of road traffic offences, including in South Lanarkshire.

Bilal Qayyum pled guilty to two separate charges in Glasgow and Rutherglen from June and December 2020.

The 34-year-old made headlines in 2011 when he was convicted for sexually assaulting two schoolgirls, aged between 13 and 15, in a shop.

He was given a community payback order and put on the sex offenders register for two years.

Qayyum opened the Quay Lounge in the city's Tradeston in April 2018.

The venue provided tobacco or non-tobacco-based shisha is passed through water before it is inhaled.

Qayyum was fined in 2019 for employing two illegal workers.

His return to crime took place on January 23, 2020 in the city centre's Trongate area.

Qayyum's gold Nissan Gt-r collided with an unattended vehicle in an accident and he failed to stop to provide his details.

He also failed to report the accident to the police.

On June 3, 2020 he was caught "driving at excessive speeds" behind the wheel of his Nissan in the city's Hillington.

Qayyum also undertook and failed to maintain a safe braking distance behind other road users.

He committed a further dangerous driving offence in Rutherglen three weeks later, by driving at excessive speed.

On December 11, 2020, Qayyum was also caught dangerous driving while unfit through drink or drugs in the city's Cardonald.

Court papers state Qayyum failed to maintain proper control of the vehicle and lost control of it.

He also caused the vehicle to leave the road which came to rest in the garden at a property on Kingsland Drive.

Qayyum admitted driving while unfit through drink or drugs and driving without insurance.

He also pled guilty to possession of cocaine and failing to co-operate with a breath test on the same date.

Qayyum, of the city's Shawlands, was disqualified from driving pending background reports and sentencing next month at Glasgow Sheriff Court.
