A man convicted of sexually assaulting a woman in East Kilbride has been sent to prison for three years.
Ammad Awan was sentenced at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Friday.
Earlier a jury had convicted him of assaulting the woman at an address in the Calderwood area on April 15 last year.
Awan, 37, of Rose Street, Glasgow, claimed the woman consented to sexual activity, but the jury took less than 40 minutes to find him guilty by a majority.
The court heard that he has a previous conviction for a domestic assault and breach of the peace.
After studying background reports and a risk assessment, Sheriff Douglas Brown told Awan only a jail sentence was appropriate given the nature and gravity of the charge.
The sheriff also put him on the sex offenders register for an indefinite period and imposed a non-harassment order designed to keep Awan away from his victim for five years.
