Perthshire's pink sheep are hard to miss

A flock of sheep in Glenlyon, not far from Ben Lawers in Highland Perthshire have been causing a stir because they appeared to have had a dramatic colour change.

The 30 or so tups – breeding males about to be let loose to produce next year’s lambs – were a fetching shade of flamingo pink.

Head shepherd at Meggernie Estate Angus Webster explained: “I coloured them bright using carpet dye so once they go off and mix with the ewes, I can see them far away on the hill.

“It helps if I can identify them and that way I know which is lazy and which is doing their job.

Double take - who knew sheep could be this colour? (Melanie O'Flynn)

“Also tups are softer than ewes so if I can pick them out, I can go and find them in the winter to take them home for feeding.”
