Perthshire man taken to hospital following assault near village play park

A Perthshire man was left badly bruised after being reportedly attacked by a group of yobs near a village play park.

Police have launched an investigation in to the incident which took place by Invergowrie Memorial Park on Saturday night.

The 30-year-old man had to be taken to Ninewells Hospital to be treated for his injuries.

Authorities confirmed there was a disturbance involving “a number of people” at around 10.25pm.

Residents near Dargie Road became aware of the incident after seeing three police vans arrive at the scene.

One man took to social media and said he heard “screaming” around the time of the incident, and that there were as many as 30 people outside.

A spokesperson for the police said: “Police Scotland was made aware of a disturbance involving a number of people in Invergowrie at around 10.25pm on Saturday, July 11.

“A 30-year-old man was taken to Ninewells Hospital for treatment to non-life threatening injuries.

“Inquiries are ongoing.”

It marks a sad return of similar criminal activity that blighted the village prior to lockdown, with Police Scotland representatives even attending an urgent meeting in the village in January to discuss the spate of crimes that had gripped the village.
