Perthshire head teacher Stuart goes Solo in Star Wars assembly for May the 4th

A Perthshire school celebrated ‘May the fourth’ with a special Star Wars-themed assembly.

And it meant surprised Bertha Park High School pupils got to see their head teacher dressed as Han Solo while addressing them from the Millennium Falcon in a fun video clip.

Star Wars fanatic Stuart Clyde could not let the opportunity to do something for Star Wars Day pass.

May 4 is celebrated every year by fans of the sci-fi films for the pun on the catchphrase: “May the force be with you”.

The Bertha Park head teacher told the PA: “I hoped it would bring a smile to people’s faces and inject a little bit of fun when there is not a lot of fun at the moment. It’s been tough for everyone.”

Perth and Kinross councillors say replacement school should get new name

But he felt the “stars had aligned” with the May bank holiday switching to this Friday instead and May 4 falling on a school day.

The video featured Han Solo, aka Mr Clyde, sat next to Darth Vader in the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon.

He told pupils the school was being guarded by some special security controls.

The video then moved to a shot of R2D2 apparently outside the school picking up some anomalies within the amphitheatre, before Stormtroopers were seen dancing in the empty school amphitheatre.

There were also some mysterious rumblings outside at the bike sheds - which turned out to be AT-AT walkers.

Darth Vader then gave a special message to pupils, telling them they were doing an “awesome job” with their remote learning. In a further act of unusual kindness for the Sith lord, he paid tribute to parents and key workers for all they are doing.

The video finished with Darth Vader and Han Solo telling pupils: “Stay indoors, wash your hands and may the force be with you.”
