Perthshire community comes together to create colourful scarecrow trail

A Perthshire community has come together to create a scarecrow trail to help get people out and about.

The five-day Rosemount Meadow Scarecrow Trail in Blairgowrie started on Friday and has proved a hit with residents.

A number of households got involved to create the colourful scarecrows which brought so much joy to young and old alike.

The event was the brainchild of John Scott, who normally attends the Ely Scarecrow Festival with his family.

It was left to his wife Allie to organise everything, and she was delighted with how it went.

Speaking on Friday, she said: “We have 16 neighbours who have got involved and others now working on theirs.

“Lockdown means we can’t move around in the same way we would normally so we thought it might bring some cheer to the neighbourhood.

“Our estate is always great at Hallowe’en and Christmas so we reached out to the neighbours.”

Allie, who is the mental health and counselling manager at the University of the Highlands and Islands, hopes the scarecrows will help promote good mental health in the town.

She said: “At the start of lockdown we had things like the rainbows in the window but, as time has passed, these things have been talen down and there’s been a fall in people walking about.

“Following the trail is good exercise in the beautiful area we live in.

“It’s also something that can help with wellbeing, just something to lift people’s spirits.”
