Perthshire care company launches campaign to help tackle food poverty

Local home care company Home Instead Perthshire is calling on the community to support their ‘Tackling Hunger with Kindness’ campaign.

Running until December 15, the drive invites locals to donate food in the hope that no one in Scotland will go hungry this Christmas.

All donations will be hand delivered by Home Instead to local food banks in Perth and Kinross, South Ayrshire, Stirling and Falkirk, East Dunbartonshire and East Renfrewshire.

Suggested food donations are cereal, soup, pasta, rice, pasta sauce, beans, tinned meat, tinned vegetables, tea and coffee, tinned fruit and biscuits.

Food donations can be dropped off weekdays 9am to 5pm at Home Instead’s office at 5 Atholl Place, Perth.

Home Instead welcomes people to get in touch to arrange an out-of-hours drop-off.

The campaign is in partnership with The Trussell Trust, a charity that prevents hunger and poverty.

Head of recruitment and retention at Home Instead, and the lead for the campaign, Fiona Lauder said: “The Trussell Trust provides vital support through their wonderful food donation and redistribution.

“Food poverty is all too common in the area, and we shouldn’t simply accept that it goes on.

“No one should go without food, so we hope the local community will get behind our campaign in partnership with The Trussell Trust.

“We’d like to thank everyone for their donations. The campaign will help people who are struggling this winter.”

Fiona continued: “As a local home care company, we’re out in the community helping elderly people live the life that they deserve.

“But we don’t want our help to stop there. Our ‘Tackling Hunger with Kindness’ campaign is one way that we address issues in the community and encourage the public to join us in helping others.”
