Perth thief gives it some stick and breaks into bingo hall

A Perth bingo hall was the target of a break-in this week - by an opportunistic thief using a walking stick.

The bizarre incident saw the man, who was using the stick to walk, gain access into the Premier Bingo on South Methven Street and try to make off with the contents of the till.

He managed to gain entry to the bingo hall by forcing the back doors open.

Once inside, the suspect tried to break into the till, but was unsuccessful and ended up leaving empty handed.

The incident took place shortly after 10.30pm on Monday, April 15.

A member of staff at the bingo hall told the PA this week: “It was an opportunistic thief

“He must have been in and out within minutes because once the alarm goes off, the police are here in minutes so he must have heard that and got out.

“He got through the doors at the back, the only thing that was damaged was the till, but he got nothing.

“The police have viewed the CCTV, and the CCTV covers the back car park as well.”

Police officers investigating the incident want to trace the man, although they are unable to speculate on what age the suspect is.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland’s Tayside division said: “Police Scotland is investigating a break-in to a bingo hall in South Methven Street, Perth, which happened about 10.35pm on Monday, April 15.

“Entry was gained by forcing a door, then an attempt was made to gain entry to a till, but this appears to have been unsuccessful and it is thought that the person responsible left empty handed.

“Officers would like to trace a man described as wearing a hooded top, tracksuit bottoms and two-toned footwear, and using a walking stick.

“If anyone has information that could assist our investigation, please call 101.

“Our reference is CR/9715/19.”
