Perth swelters on hottest day in more than a year

Perth has recorded its hottest day in more than a year, with the maximum temperature climbing to 38.5 degrees Celsius at 2:27pm.

Perth's second-hottest day was over summer — 38C on January 14.

The last time the temperature rose above today's top was on February 25, 2017, when the temperature climbed to 39.3C.

The city has certainly been experiencing a warmer-than-usual start to autumn.

Last week, Perth had its warmest night in four years, with an overnight minimum temperature of 26.2C.

The warmest night of last summer was 24.7C on February 3.

If you have plans to head to the beach you'd better be quick though, as on Saturday the city's forecast maximum temperature is just 22C, with a possible shower.

Wednesday will be the city's last day in the 30s, with a top of 32C.

Thursday and Friday will be in the mid-20s and cloudy.
