Perth Stadium train station ready to handle 28,000 fans in an hour

Perth Stadium Station is the city's second biggest and will run high-frequency trains during big events.

The $145 million train station for the new Perth Stadium is now ready to receive thousands of passengers for the venue's first event in January.

High-frequency train services from the station will be able to move 28,000 fans within an hour of an event ending, the State Government said.

The six-platform station, located between Claisebrook and Burswood on the Armadale Line, is the second biggest station on the Perth network.

There are no escalators going between platforms or the entrance, but there are 11 lifts for those with disabilities or prams.

Fremantle, Joondalup and Armadale line passengers will have direct special event services to the stadium, with Midland line passengers encouraged to catch the train to East Perth and walk across the purpose-built bridge or change services in the city.

The Government recently confirmed however the footbridge would likely not be ready until May.

In the meantime, extra buses will service the 14,000 fans who were expected to use the footbridge.

Transport Minister Rita Saffioti was confident the Government's investment would be a catalyst for fans and the general public to use the city's growing public transport network.

She estimated over 80 per cent of football fans would use public transport to access the stadium.

"This a big cultural shift for Perth and for the suburbs and for Western Australia," she said.

The stadium's first major event will be a free community open day on Sunday January 21, 2018.
