Enquiry launched after prank call to police over bomb threat sees Perth school evacuated

A Perthshire secondary school had to be evacuated after a suspected prank call warned of a bomb.

It was at the end of the school day on Monday that St John’s RC Academy in Perth went into shutdown after a threatening call was logged to reception.

Pupils spoke of armed police seen arriving at the school gates, but there was no evidence of any danger.

Now police have vowed to trace who wasted their time.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 4.10pm on Monday, April, 25, police were called after a threatening phone call has been made to St John’s Academy, Gowans Terrace, Perth.

“The school was evacuated and following a search of the premises it was established that there was no risk to the school or public.

“Enquiries are ongoing in to the origin of the call.”

A Perth and Kinross Council spokesperson said: “We can confirm there was an incident at St John’s RC Academy on Monday and we are assisting police with their enquiries.

“As there is an ongoing police investigation we cannot comment further at this stage.”
