Perth's Karen is topping the UK charts alongside Michael Ball and Captain Tom Moore

A Perth woman is currently riding high at the top of the UK charts.

Karen Clark is part of the Voices of Care Choir, which has taken ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ to number one on the Big Top 40 alongside Michael Ball and Captain Tom Moore, the heroic World War II veteran who has raised over £25 million for the NHS.

The charity single sold almost 36,000 copies in its first 48 hours.

Former Kilgraston pupil Karen works as a speech and language therapist at Perth Royal Infirmary.

And she admitted she is finding the past week a bit of a whirlwind.

She said: “I was emailed by the music producer to ask if I and anyone I worked with would be interested in singing with a high-profile artist on a charity single.

“Myself and three of my speech and language therapy colleagues had to sign up within an hour, record ourselves that night and send the recording to be mixed overnight.

“It was played on BBC Radio Two the following morning and we then had a Zoom call with Michael Ball and the music producer to record the video of us singing and waving.”

Karen has been singing in choirs for most of her life, but this is her first chart experience.

She laughed: “This has been a crazy surreal rollercoaster of an experience and definitely not the average day in the life of a speech and language therapist.”
