Perth's Energy Festival packed full of exciting activities at the North Inch this weekend

People across Perth and Kinross are being urged to bring the energy to the North Inch this weekend.

The free-to-attend Energy Festival is back for 2022 and is set to be bigger and better than ever before.

The festival will bring together the Colour Gauntlet, a STEM zone and lots of sports activities on July 30 and 31.

After the success of 2021, which was held at Scone Palace, the organising team decided to move the event to a more central location supported by Perth and Kinross Council.

The non-profit Energy Festival aims to provide grassroots opportunities for everyone in sport and STEM in a fun and engaging atmosphere.

Elliott Brown, co-director, explained to the PA: “We wanted to make the festival even more accessible for 2022.

“We worked with our main sponsor Scottish and Southern Electricity and lots of local businesses to utilise our amazing green space at the North Inch.

“Our sponsors also enabled the festival to be free for attendees, alongside our awesome volunteer networks.”

The festival hosts plenty of sports to come and try, with partner events hosted by Bell’s Sports Centre (Live Active).

There are family fitness activities and Sustrans is hosting a group family cycle ride to Huntingtower.

Rugby, bushcraft, axe throwing, climbing, fitness, boxing, combat archery and laser shooting are just a few of the other activities that visitors can participate in.

Meanwhile, the SSE Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) zone will provide a hub for fun science and engineering challenges, with Aberdeen and Glasgow science centres joining the still-growing list of providers.

With sport at its heart, the STEM zone will delve into the human body and explore the depths of human capability.

Organisers say a lot of engaging encounters await utilising science, technology, engineering, musical maths and art.

Sam O’Connor, from SSEN, said: “Following a successful turnout at last year’s Energy Festival, we were delighted to be asked to be overall sponsors of the 2022 event.

“This year we will have representatives from across the SSE group showcasing the diversity of opportunities available within our business.

“Our teams are looking forward to getting involved to inspire the next generation to power change to build a better world of energy.”

The Royal Regiment of Scotland will also be providing a large contingent of activities and challenges, showing off some of their most up-to-date technology and engineering kit for attendees to engage with.

And elsewhere, Perth’s only colour run - a real star of the show - will again be hosted at the festival.

“The Energy Colour Run was last year’s most popular event, and this year we bring more obstacles and more colour for families to enjoy,” Louise Ballantyne from Omni, the colour gauntlet organiser, explained this week.

The newly named Colour Gauntlet will act as the central arena at the festival where everyone will be able to see the “crazy colourful fun” as they wander around the festival.

The Energy Festival, which takes place from 10-4pm on both days, is the latest large scale event to grace the area and follows on from the popular Rewind Festival at Scone Palace last weekend.
