Perth Rotary Classic Car Tour drives up funds for good causes

A classic car tour event was again the driving force behind providing three charities with a significant financial boost.

The Rotary Club of Perth last week presented Alzheimer Scotland, Carers Trust Scotland and Prostate Scotland with £10,000 each.

The cash was raised at the club’s annual and always-popular Perthshire Classic Car Tour.

On Sunday, April 23, the event saw 104 vintage, classic and prestige cars meet at McDiarmid Park and set off at the wave of the flag by deputy provost of Perth and Kinross Andrew Parrot and Rotary Club of Perth president, Anna Martin.

The cars toured through Perthshire villages and towns, cheered on and photographed by locals on their way to the Isle of Glencoe Hotel in Ballachulish.

After a very well-received lunch they set off back along the banks of Loch Tay to Crieff Hydro Hotel in Crieff where, guided in by supporting fellow Rotarians, a warm welcome awaited.

The range and quality of cars was said to be “astounding” - from the Rolls Royce Silver Dawn, Aston Martin DB4, 1924 Alvis SA Super Sports and the only road registered Radical SR8.

Many more personally and carefully restored cars, all cherished by their owners, were present.

Rotary president Anna said: “The opportunity of viewing so many unique cars was a treat for all car enthusiasts.”

The sponsors of the event - Stephen Leckie of Crieff Hydro Family of Hotels, John Clark of The John Clark Motor Group and Alex Wilson of The Intelligent Land Investment Group - all personally took part in the tour in their own cars.

They helped to make the day the most successful fundraising Perthshire Classic Car Tour yet. Over £30,000 was raised for the three nominated charities.

The tour dinner at Crieff Hydro Hotel was widely praised for its setting amidst an arrangement of classic cars, good food and atmosphere as well as a fun auction.

Anna added: “The Rotary Club of Perth would like to thank everyone, and there were many, who contributed and donated to support this event and the nominated charities.”

The presentation of the funds to the three charities took place on Thursday at 3pm at Crieff Hydro Hotel.
