Perth rain hits WA v Tasmania Shield match

Rain is set to play havoc on the third day of the Sheffield Shield clash at the WACA Ground. (AAP)

Rain has delayed the start of day three of the Sheffield Shield clash between Western Australia and Tasmania at the WACA Ground.

Up to 35mm of rain is being forecast for Perth on Tuesday, and morning showers meant play couldn't resume at the scheduled 10.30am WST starting time.

The game is delicately poised after two days of action, with Western Australia 1-42 in their second innings for an overall lead of 28 after Tasmania were dismissed for 252 in their first innings.

Sam Whiteman is on 21, and Shaun Marsh is on nine.

Star WA paceman Jhye Richardson couldn't take part in the game on Monday after suffering back spasms during the warm-up.

The Warriors are hopeful he will be able to bowl again during the match.

Richardson has been plagued by shoulder injuries in the last few years, and more recently battled a side strain and an ankle complaint.
