Perth raceday's nod to Scottish heritage

Perth Racecourse will this weekend celebrate two of Scotland’s most recent success stories.

The second BRAW! Raceday takes place at the course on Saturday, June 22 with thousands of racing fans expected to attend.

The event will pay homage to Lewis Capaldi and the Scotland Women’s national football team.

Last year’s inaugural BRAW! event attracted a bumper crowd, and the fixture is on track for another stellar show, with the seven-race card offering yet more competitive racing now that the summer jumping season is fully underway.

Perth Racecourse will celebrate two big Scottish successes of the past year with two specially named races - the Lewis Capaldi Giving It Laldy Handicap Hurdle takes place at 4.10pm, while the SWNT Our Girls Our Game Handicap Hurdle is at 5.25pm.

In true Scots style, punters will be welcomed into the venue on arrival by a lone piper and can enjoy an array of the finest fare – including haggis nachos – before a mass ceilidh rounds up proceedings after the final race.

Perth Racecourse chief executive, Hazel Peplinski, said: “Perth’s summer programme is now in full swing and having enjoyed a sensational start to our season, we are busy turning everything around since our Gold Cup Sunday to welcome another large crowd to our first Saturday fixture of the year.

“Our new BRAW! Raceday is in its second year and allows us, as the most northerly track in the UK, to give a wee nod to our Scottish heritage which makes us very proud – including Lewis Capaldi and the Scotland Women’s National Team, who have both achieved such amazing things in the 12 months since our first BRAW! Raceday.”

Adding a final Scottish touch to this Saturday, four-piece ceilidh band Bahookie will be leading the charge post-racing. Fusing traditional folk reels and fiddles with the latest pop anthems, this is a band that promises to get everyone up on their feet.

Gates for BRAW Raceday open at 11.30am with the first race scheduled at 1.50pm, and the last at 5.25pm.
