Perth nightclub denies rumours of closure after Vengaboys gig cancelled

A Perth nightspot has moved to deny rumours it is set to close.

The Bank Nightclub made the statement after a much-anticipated gig due to take place this weekend was cancelled.

Popular 90s band The Vengaboys were set to play on Friday, February 14

In a statement, bosses at The Bank said they were upset the gig has been cancelled, and added they had no say or control in the booking of The Vengaboys.

The statement also reassured punters they were it was not closing down.

It said: “As you may be aware, The Vengaboys live event that was due to take place on Friday, February 14 at The Bank Nightclub has now been cancelled.

“The main room within The Bank Nightclub was hired by the promoter ‘Concept 2020’ and they were in full control of The Vengaboys coming to Perth.

“We had no say or control in the booking of The Vengaboys for the event.

“As the operators of the venue, we were aware of some issues from the start and we are just as upset that this event has now been cancelled.”

The statement went on: “Concept 2020 stated it was due to the lack of ticket sales.

“Although we are aware that was not the case (as there was no access to obtain tickets for a number of weeks leading up to the event), we waited on updates from the promoter who sent assurances that all was in order.

“Unfortunately, as stated, the event has now been cancelled.

“To clarify, The Bank Bar and Nightclub is an ongoing concern - we are aware that there are many rumours that we are to close in the coming weeks, this is simply not the case.

“We look forward to welcoming you to our venue as usual.”

The Vengaboys were also due to be supported by Scarlet Skylar Rae and Aria Welsh from Perthshire Pride, who were due to give a DJ set.

Drag queen Scarlet said she is “absolutely gutted” the gig has been cancelled.
