Perth mental health crisis charity awarded £2500 donation to help support young people in the area

A Perth mental health crisis charity was awarded a cheque for £2500 to help it support young people in the area who are at risk of suicide.

The kind donation to The Lighthouse for Perth was made by Scottish Bakers president and Perth resident Linda Hill along with Scottish Bakers CEO Alasdair Smith.

The Lighthouse for Perth is a local non-profit service offering crisis support for anyone aged 12 plus who is at risk of self-harm or suicide.

This includes those who are not only at risk of suicide or self-injury, but also those who find themselves in emotional distress or crisis.

The charity is also in the process of rolling out outreach points at rural schools in the region with Kinross and Blairgowrie high schools among them.

Lighthouse manager Sharon Thomas was on hand to accept the generous donation.

Linda Hill, who also runs Murrays Bakers in Perth, was effusive in her praise for the service commenting: “It was a great honour to present £2500 to Sharon at The Lighthouse for Perth, one of my chosen charities.

“The money was raised from the raffle and auction proceeds from the Scottish Bakers Presidential Dance which was held in Glasgow late in February.

“This is an amazing charity helping the young people in the Perth area who are at risk of suicide, self harm or in crisis.

“It was quite an emotional visit and hearing about the work they do made me wish I could have tripled that number.

“They were so thankful for the donation and that amount will go a long way to help such a great cause.

“Look out for the younger generation, it’s been a tough time for them.”
