Perth Masters 2021 curling competition cancelled due to COVID-19

The popular Perth Masters curling competition, scheduled for January 2021, has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Chairman of the event, Pete Loudon, had again been hoping to welcome some of the world’s best male and female curlers to the Dewars Centre.

But on Thursday he said: “On behalf of the organising committee of the Perth Masters I am very disappointed to advise that, after much consideration, we have decided we will not be in a position to run the Perth Masters event at Dewars Centre in January 2021.

“Following consultation with our key partners and stakeholders we came to the conclusion that due to the government restrictions and the many other complications involved in running a curling event for 40 teams from all around the world, we have been left with no option but to cancel.”

The Perth Masters is one of the most popular competitions on the curling calendar and has become well-known for its strength of entries, but also for its welcoming hospitality.

Pete, while disappointed, is looking ahead with optimism.

And he added: “We thank all the teams who had registered, and we hope to run the event in 2022.”
