Perth man stole items from relative

A Perth man’s behaviour was branded “pretty low” after he stole hundreds of pounds worth of a family member’s electronic games and computer devices - then sold them to help fund his drug habit.

Thirty-year-old Daniel Hamilton, c/o Craig, Iona Court, North Muirton, had his sentence deferred until May 1 to enable a drug treatment and testing order assessment to be carried out.

He admitted at Perth Sheriff Court that on numerous occasions between February 28 and March 10, 2018, he stole the items from a house in Coll Place, Perth.

Depute fiscal Catriona MacQueen said the stolen items - a hand-held games console, two computer tablets, a games console controller and games and a mobile phone - had a total value of £640.

He had sold them at Trading Places, in Perth’s South Street, but £490 worth were recovered.

Solicitor Steve Lafferty said: “The theft was aggravated because of the breach of trust.

“He’s had a long-standing problem and his motivation is to get himself drug-free.

“But he can’t do that under his own steam.”

Deferring sentence, Sheriff William Wood told Hamilton: “Plainly this is pretty low behaviour, stealing from your [family member].”

The accused was freed on bail meantime.
