Perth group's off-road bike trek inspired by big screen

A Perth-based property firm partner is in for some rough going later this month - not on the land markets so much as keeping the wheels turning on a rocky Highland bike trek.

Four Bidwells colleagues including the Perth office’s rural partner, Andrew Wood, are making a two-day charity cycling challenge, riding a 90km off-road route from Speyside to the Kingshouse Hotel at Glencoe.

They hope to support Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) through their efforts.

Andrew, usually concerned with the sale of Perthshire estates, will set off from Newtonmore on September 18 with Clive Meikle from Bidwells’ Inverness office. The intrepid pair will ride to Corrour Station where for day two, they will be joined by Angus Kelly and Heledd Rheinallt of the firm’s Fort William office.

The four estate agents have dubbed it the Highlands Hollywood Mountain Bike Challenge as they are planning to pass parts of the Scottish countryside made famous for their inclusion in the big movie blockbusters.

The off road bike trip takes them down the Devil’s Staircase to Rannoch Moor, immortalised in the Skyfall James Bond film.

“Our route will take us over Ben Alder and Ardverikie Estates – think Monarch of the Glen and the forthcoming James Bond film, on to Corrour Estate - think Trainspotting, by Loch Treig on to Kinlochleven, joining the West Highland Way and then down the Devil’s Staircase to Rannoch Moor – think Skyfall,” explained Andrew.

He went on to explain why the group have decided to take on the challenge:

“It’s Bidwells 180th year in business and the whole firm has been challenged with raising money for our chosen charities.

Our nominated beneficiary is Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance, which is really a great cause, saving lives in remote parts of the country. We are determined to raise a good amount for them.”
