The turmoil at Perth Glory has deepened with Jason Brewer announcing his resignation as the embattled A-League club’s chief executive.

Glory have been banished from this season’s A-League finals and fined $269,000 after Football Federation Australia issued two show cause notices and found them guilty of breaching the salary cap by more then $400,000.

They can expect a third breach notice to arrive following an announcement by the FFA on Wednesday that alleged a further $100,000 in undeclared player payments and benefits had been discovered.

Brewer acknowledged he had to take full responsibility for Perth’s situation but reiterated that there had been no wrongdoing at the club.

“I would like to personally apologise for a series of events which have resulted in the club facing sanctions by the Football Federation of Australia,” Brewer said in a statement on Glory’s official website.

“As CEO I ultimately take full responsibility for these actions which have resulted in the club being eliminated from this year’s Hyundai A-League finals campaign.

“The decision by the FFA to eliminate the club from the finals in no way reflects the massive effort undertaken this year by everyone, involved with the club.

“Like every A-League club, we manage it [the salary cap] throughout the season and it must be made very clear that this club has made each and every payment through its own records,” Brewer’s statement added.

“There have been no so called ‘secret’ or ‘third party’ payments made on behalf of the club.

“As I said, as CEO of the club, the ultimate responsibility rests with me and for this reason I must take full and total responsibility.”

If found guilty of the further FFA allegations, Perth stand to be docked points for next season’s competition.
