A fish and chip shop chain previously denied permission to keep its new Perth High Street branch open later at weekends has asked the council to reconsider.
Blue Lagoon owner Angelo Varese lashed out last year after a planning official refused to let staff serve suppers for an extra two hours on Friday and Saturday nights.
The unnamed official said in a report of handling that just because no complaints had been raised with regards to noise and odour since the establishment opened, that did “ not mean that this will remain the case if hours of operation are extended”.
Mr Varese remarked at the time: “It’s very backwards from the council.
“I’m not trying to say ‘let’s make it like Glasgow’ but if they want to be a city, then act like a city.”
A new supporting statement sent to PKC states an acoustic assessment undertaken since last year’s refusal found it is unlikely noise levels would rise above acceptable limits if the shop stayed open until 1am.
It says: “To address the issue [previously] raised by the planning officer in relation to residential amenity, discussions have been undertaken with environmental health and it is considered that through the measures to be secured via condition, there will be no adverse impact on residential amenity.
“On the contrary, the proposal will have positive impacts on the night-time economy within Perth and the hours reflect several similar establishments in the area.”
