The annual Christmas card sale at AK Bell Library will not take place for the first time in over four decades this year.
The Perth Charity Christmas Cards (PCCC) group has “reluctantly” taken the decision to cancel the 2020 sale due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This year’s event had been due to take place at the end of October as the group looked to continue on its good work over the past 40 years.

In that time, the sale has helped raise an incredible £1.4million for a mix of local and national charities.
A statement from PCCC explained the decision.
It said: “All charities were optimistic earlier in the summer that it might be possible to hold the sale in some form but, as the year has progressed, it has become increasingly obvious that it would be difficult to do so safely and safety must be the primary concern for our volunteers and customers, as well as the staff and customers of the library itself.

“The situation could easily change before the sale is due to start but we feel the decision needs to be made now based on the best advice we have currently available.
“It would be wrong to proceed in the hope that the current situation will improve.
“Everyone is disappointed especially as so many charities are struggling to raise much needed funds “this year.
“We apologise for disappointing our loyal customers and we hope that they will continue to support their favourite charities this year by visiting their online shops.
“And we look forward to welcoming them back to the sale in 2021.”
