Perth Brexit protest sees hundreds of pro-EU activists march on anniversary of vote

Hundreds of pro-remain European Union supporters gathered in Perth on Sunday to protest against Brexit.

The march was organised by Perth4Europe and marked three years to the day since voters went to the polls for the EU Referendum.

Among the campaigners taking part in March Against Brexit were politicians from all sides.

A rally was held at Horsecross Plaza, near Perth Concert Hall, where speakers included Pete Wishart MP, retired former MEP James Provan, Mark Ruskell MSP and former MEP Catherine Stihler, who is vice president of the European Movement in Scotland.

Clare Scanlan, of the Glasgow Loves EU group who were also among those marching, said: “We heartily celebrate the fact that we are still, currently, members of the EU.

“We pride ourselves on being an open, welcoming and multi-cultural society. Curtailment of freedom of movement of our fellow Europeans will adversely impact so many aspects of our life. Scotland needs immigration and is most welcoming to people who choose to make their home here.”
