Perth and Kinross Tory councillor brings some "festive cheer" with "declaration of independence" call

A Conservative Perth and Kinross councillor caused excitement in his SNP rivals' ranks when he asked for any declarations of “independence” at a meeting.

Conservative councillor Bob Brawn smiled as he immediately corrected his gaff at the start of Wednesday’s (December 2) housing and communities meeting.

The Blairgowrie and Glens councillor, who is convenor of the committee, stopped immediately and laughed: “Declarations of independence? Sorry, I mean declarations of interest.”

After the meeting SNP Perth City Centre councillor Eric Drysdale called it a “Freudian slip.”

A couple of SNP councillors could not contain themselves from responding “yes” - in the meeting - to declaring independence.

One of them - SNP Blairgowrie and Glens councillor Tom McEwan - said Cllr Brawn’s slip of the tongue brought some “festive cheer.”
