Perth and Kinross sees drop in the number of coronavirus cases

The number of positive coronavirus cases in Perth and Kinross has dropped over the past two weeks.

And no COVID deaths were recorded in the region last week after one was recorded the week prior - the first death since April.

The total number of people who have died from COVID-19 in Perth and Kinross still stands at 253.

The latest statistics from Public Health Scotland show that in the week from May 17 to 23 the COVID infection rate in Perth and Kinross was at 23 per 100,000 people after 35 cases, with a one per cent seven day positivity rate.

That shows a drop from the week before (May 10-16) where the infection rate was 29 per 100,000 people after 44 cases in the week from May 10 to 16 and a 1.1 percent seven day positivity rate.

From May 17-23, North Muirton and Old Scone recorded the highest infection rate of 254.8 per 100,000 while Muirton had a rate of 110.5.

Hillyland, Tulloch and Inveralmond was recorded with an infection rate of 50.7 per 100,000.

However, as an indication that cases are dropping, the number of areas with enough cases to record an infection rate (May 17-23) now stands at the aforementioned three overall - half as many as the week before.

This means that every other area in Perth in Kinross had fewer than three cases, and were not measured on a seven day rate scale to protect patient confidentiality.
