Perth and Kinross public to have a say on temporary 20mph trials

Perth and Kinross Council is conducting a public survey on recently installed temporary 20mph speed limits throughout the region.

The restrictions are in place in more than 40 locations as part of the £1.1million Spaces for People project, which supports active travel during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The council implemented the reduced speed limits last summer, mainly in towns and villages with areas that have few or no pavements - including Perth, Blairgowrie, Kinross, Pitlochry and Scone.

Crieff and Comrie may also soon have the same temporary speed-calming measures introduced in their area following the completion of a road safety audit by Transport Scotland.

The local authority also targeted busier areas where there is a greater concentration of pedestrian and vehicular activity.

A PKC spokesperson said: “The limits enable everyone to move around their local area safely, while keeping to physical distancing requirements as part of COVID-19 restrictions.

“Our hope is also that the speed limits make all road users feel it is easier and safer to use narrower footpaths and streets.

"If you’re part of one of the communities where these 20mph trials are located, we would like to hear what your thoughts are on how effective it has been.

"The information we receive will help us make an informed decision on whether these speed limit measures should be made permanent.”
