Perth and Kinross COVID hotspots revealed as rate of infection rises in region

The seven days positive COVID rate in Perth and Kinross rose by almost 50 per cent last week.

Data from Public Health Scotland shows 30 cases per 100,000 in the seven days up until October 12.

That is up from 21.1 the week before.

The highest rates of infection are in the Muirton area of Perth, along with the Invergowrie, Longforgan and Abernyte area.

Both neighbourhoods record a rate of over 100 per 100,000, although the actual positive cases in both areas last week was under five.

Several areas did not record a single case, including swathes of Highland Perthshire, parts of Perth, Bridge of Earn and Abernethy, and Guildtown, Balbeggie and St Madoes.

In total there were 47 positive tests during the week.

One positive COVID-19 death was recorded in the region, on Saturday.

Around five per cent of people being tested Perth and Kinross are testing positive.
