NEW DELHI: Three days after a local BJP worker was shot dead by unidentified men in front of his house in an East Delhi area, police on Saturday claimed to have arrested four men for the murder. The killing, police said, was fallout of personal enmity as the deceased had slapped one of the accused in front of his girlfriend.
The four arrested men have been identified as Ujjwal (26), who runs a security agency in Mayur Vihar, Raja (22), Bittu (29) and Saurabh Kataria (18). Bittu and Raja were earlier involved in a case of attempt to murder.
The murder was reported on April 20 around 9.30 pm, when the deceased, Jitender Chaudhary, a resident of Pocket C, Mayur Vihar, was shot multiple times by some unidentified men in front of his house, leaving him spot dead.
During investigation, the police team scanned more than 500 CCTV cameras installed in the vicinity of the crime spot. “The CCTV footage collected were analysed and a trail was made. On the basis of the clues obtained from the analysis of CCTV footage as well as gathering of local intelligence, our team managed to zero in on four suspects. Their whereabouts were identified and following multiple raids, all four were detained for questioning,” said deputy commissioner of police (east) Priyanka Kashyap.
During questioning, Ujjwal told police that due to some issues, Jitender and he had gotten into a fight recently. “Following that, Jitender had once slapped Ujjwal when he was with his girlfriend. This had left Ujjwal embarrassed and he then decided to take revenge. In order to teach Jitender a lesson, Ujjwal planned to eliminate him with his friends,” the DCP said.
