Persona live-action series reportedly in the works at Netflix

Netflix is developing a Persona live-action television adaptation, according to a report from Variety. The project is still in development, but several key creatives and producers have already been named.

Christopher Monfette, known for writing the hit TV shows Star Trek: Picard, 12 Monkeys, and 911, will reportedly write the Persona series, serving as both showrunner and executive producer.

Executive producers also include Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, and Robert Atwood through 21 Laps, alongside Dmitri M. Johnson, Michael Lawrence Goldberg, and Timothy Stevenson of Story Kitchen. Toru Nakahara of Sega is also attached as an executive producer, while Emily Feher is overseeing the project for 21 Laps.

21 Laps is best known for producing Netflix’s hit series Stranger Things, while Story Kitchen has built a reputation for developing adaptations of popular video game franchises, including Tomb Raider and Life is Strange.

The live action Persona would bring one of gaming’s most popular Japanese RPG franchises to television. The Persona series, developed by Atlus’ P-Studio and published by Sega, has grown into a major franchise since the release of Revelations: Persona in 1996. The series currently includes six mainline entries and numerous spin-offs.

The latest release in the franchise was Persona 5: The Phantom X last year. Sega and Atlus also confirmed that Persona 6 is in development, while Persona 4 Revival is scheduled to launch on February 18, 2027.

Netflix has steadily expanded its lineup of video game adaptations in recent years, with Persona potentially becoming its latest gaming-based project. The streaming service has previously released a live-action adaptation for The Witcher, as well as animated series inspired by popular games, including Arcane (League of Legends), DOTA: Dragon’s Blood, and Tekken: Bloodline.

Persona live action release date

Netflix has not announced a release date for the live action Persona series, and the project remains in the early stages of development. Given the current timeline, there is a possibility that Netflix could aim to launch the series around the release of Persona 4 Revival, which is set to arrive on February 18, 2027. Releasing the show alongside a major game launch would allow both projects to benefit from increased interest in the franchise.

However, until Netflix provides official details, fans should treat any Persona live action adaptation release date estimates as speculation. More information about the cast, story, and production schedule is expected to be revealed as development progresses.
