'Persona 6' Update Shares Content Rating of the Upcoming JRPG—Is There a Release Date?

Atlus recently confirmed "Persona 6" without providing any additional details apart from its existence.

However, a new update discovered online gives more information regarding the game, particularly its content rating.

'Persona 6' Content Rating Update Shared Online

The Australian Classification Board has quietly posted the content rating for the upcoming Japanese role-playing game (JRPG) "Persona 6," as first discovered by Redditors and shared on the r/GamingLeaksAndRumors subreddit.

The regulatory board granted "Persona 6" an unrestricted rating of M, covering coarse language, violence, and nudity. The listing surfaced on the Gaming Leaks and Rumors subreddit before being taken offline, suggesting the rating may have gone live ahead of schedule.

As of press time, it is unclear whether the M rating will remain as assigned or be revised to a higher classification before the game's release.

The ACB's M rating works differently from the ESRB system used in North America. An unrestricted M from the ACB is roughly equivalent to a T for Teen rating from the ESRB, meaning Australian customers could purchase the game without showing identification.

However, both "Persona 5 Royal" and "Persona 4 Revival" received full Mature ratings from the ESRB for sexual themes, violence, and strong language. Given that precedent, it is plausible that the ACB could revise "Persona 6" upward to an MA15+ classification, which would require ID verification at retail.

Is There a Release Date for Atlus' 'Persona 6'?

No official release date has been confirmed by Atlus or Sega for the upcoming mainline sequel of the "Persona" franchise. The content rating alone does not reveal a launch window, but it does suggest that development is progressing well enough that the game is being submitted to international ratings boards, as per GameRant.

Additional hints have been pointing in that direction for several months as a freelance translator named Indigozeal shared on Tumblr that they had already completed their translation contributions for "Persona 6" by the time the game was revealed at the Xbox Games Showcase in June, indicating the project is further along than the sparse public-facing information might suggest.

A reputable Atlus leaker previously shared that a September 2027 launch is the current target, though Atlus has not confirmed this as of writing.

What to Expect From 'Persona 6'

"Persona 6" was officially revealed during the Xbox Games Showcase earlier this month with a brief teaser trailer. The footage shown appeared to be set in or near a graveyard, hinting at the game's tone and setting.

Sega and Atlus confirmed that the color green will be central to the game's branding, following the pattern of past numbered entries, which used blue for "Persona 3," yellow for "Persona 4," and red for "Persona 5."

The game is confirmed for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, with day-one availability on Game Pass. Single-player JRPG gameplay is expected, consistent with every mainline entry in the franchise.

Earlier leaks also suggested that character art tied to the game's cast has been circulating privately, though Atlus moved to suppress that material. The green branding, graveyard imagery, and active translation work all paint a picture of a game that is closer to the finish line than the minimal marketing so far might imply.
