Persona 5 Tactica announced at Xbox Games Showcase

Persona 5 Tactica

Even more Persona goodness is coming to Xbox, as turn-based Persona 5 Tactica just got announced at the Xbox Games Showcase, part of the not-E3 2023 game announcement season.

This is the second of two Persona games announced at the event. The first being Persona 3 Reload, a remake of the PS2 classic. Persona 5 Tactica moves the series to an isometric, turn-based strategy genre and launches on November 17 this year for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and, best of all, day one on Xbox Game Pass.

The Persona franchise is known for dipping a toe into all kinds of genres. A turn-based strategy isn't all that outlandish considering fellow releases across the franchise which have been rhythm games (Persona 5 Dancing in Starlight), dungeon crawlers (Persona Q2), musou-likes (Persona 5 Strikers) and more.

Persona 5 Tactica adopts a much more cartoonish, chibi-like aesthetic than what we see in Persona 5 Royal. It's somewhat similar to the style of Nintendo 3DS title Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth.

In terms of how Persona 5 Tactica plays, it looks to blend the series' slick turn-based combat applied to a strategy RPG format. The Phantom Thieves can still summon their respective Personas. There's also a new Triple Threat mechanic which encompasses a large chunk of the battlefield in a triangle shape, dealing big damage to enemies caught within the radius.

The series also hasn't lost its touch for charming dialogue and flamboyant boss encounters with Persona 5 Tactica. Flashy cutscenes show a boss in bridal wear rock up in a spike-treaded tank. Another shot shows party members Ryuji and Haru teaming up, preparing to launch an offensive.

Persona spin-offs are usually of a high quality, so hopefully, Persona 5 Tactica will be no different. Alongside the Persona 3 Reload, it's a pretty excellent time to be a Persona fan.
