Person trapped in car as M5 is closed after accident near J18A for M49 - heavy traffic

A person was trapped in their car on the M5 after another two-vehicle crash on the motorway today (August 12).

Motorists were stuck in more than ten miles of queues after a second collision occurred on the busy route in less than two hours.

Fire crews from attended the crash, which happened near J18a (Avonmouth).

A spokesperson for Avon Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called at 14:45 to reports of a two-vehicle collision on the M5, junction 18a.

“Crews from Avonmouth and Southmead are in attendance. One casualty is being treated at the scene by the fire service.

“Another casualty is trapped with crews trying to release them.

“Police, Highways officers and ambulance crews are in attendance,”

During today's earlier accident, near Portishead's junction on the southbound carriageway, one person was taken to hospital.

The crash caused delays of more than one hour and 20 minutes, with reports of some motorists abandoning their vehicles to walk their dogs while other's started juggling.
