Person 'trapped' after horror smash between HGV and car on busy Scots road as police probe launched

A busy road in the Scottish Borders has been closed after a horror smash between a lorry and a car.

Emergency services were called to the scene on the A699, near St Boswells, at around 7.15am on Tuesday, August 17.

The two vehicles are understood to have collided at the junction of the A68.

It is not currently known if anyone was injured however at least one person was trapped within their vehicle.

Three appliances from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were also called in to help before leaving the scene after making it safe.

The road has been closed for more than four hours as accident investigation work is carried out by officers.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 7.15am on Tuesday, 17 August, officers were called to the A699 at the junction with the A68, south of St Boswells, following a report of a road crash involving a car and a lorry.

“The road is currently closed and emergency services remain at the scene.”

The Scottish Ambulance Service has been contacted for comment.
