Person tragically killed after being hit by train at Glasgow station

A person has sadly died after being struck by a train in Glasgow today.

Emergency services raced to the scene around 12.30pm after the incident at Hillington East railway station - between Glasgow Central and Paisley Gilmour Street.

The person tragically could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The railway line has been closed to allow for investigations to take place.

A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said: "British Transport Police were called to Hillington East railway station at 12.30pm today (1 February) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Officers and paramedics are in attendance. Sadly a person has been pronounced dead at the scene.

"This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the procurator fiscal."

A statement on ScotRail's twitter added: "Sadly, a person has been struck by a train between Glasgow Central and Paisley Gilmour Street.

"We’re working closely with the emergency services during this time and will keep you updated."
