Person tragically dies after being hit by train on Scots railway line

A person has tragically died after being hit by a train on a Scots railway line.

British Transport Police (BTP) responded to the incident in the Livingston area at around 8pm on Saturday, December 18.

The Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) also attended but tragically the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers are now trying to identify the person and inform their next of kin.

The incident is currently being treated as non suspicious and a report will be sent to the local Procurator Fiscal.

A BTP spokesperson said: "Officers were called to Livingston area after a report that a person had been struck by a train.

"Officers from the BTP attended the incident, which was reported to BTP at 20:00hrs and is currently being treated as non-suspicious.

"Ambulance service also attended but the person was pronounced deceased at the scene

"Officers are currently working to establish the identity of the person, and inform their next of kin.

"A report will be sent to the local Procurator Fiscal.

"The line was handed back at 23:00hrs."
