Person taken to hospital with head injury after being assaulted in Newcastle

A person has suffered a head injury after being assaulted in Newcastle.

Emergency services were called to St Anthony's Road in Walker on Thursday evening after receiving reports that someone had been injured in an attack.

Paramedics treated the patient at the scene before taking them to the Royal Victoria Infirmary.

A spokesperson for North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called at about 6.30pm on Thursday to assist a patient thought to have suffered an assault.

"We dispatched a hazardous area response team and a paramedic ambulance.

"We treated one person for a head injury before taking them to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle."

A number of police vehicles have also been seen in the area and a cordon was put in place while officers from Northumbria Police carry out investigations.
