Person taken to hospital as air ambulance called to 3-vehicle crash in Newport

An air ambulance was called to the scene of a three-vehicle crash this morning on the A468 near Newport.

The incident took place on Caerphilly Road between Rhiwderin and Lower Machen at approximately 10.47am.

An air ambulance was called to the incident, which involved three vehicles, as well as two two ambulances and two rapid response cars.

Gwent Police confirmed that they were called at 10.49am with a report of a three vehicle road traffic collision on Caerphilly Road, from Bassaleg going towards Caerphilly.

Police said that there were no life changing or life threatening injuries following the incident, though one person was taken to hospital.

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We attended the scene with two rapid response cars, two emergency ambulances and the Wales Air Ambulance."

They added: "One patient was taken by road to the Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport for further treatment.”

The road was closed in both directions after the incident and remained closed until shortly after 1pm.
