Person taken to hospital after suspected assault in Newcastle

A person has been taken to hospital after a suspected assault in Newcastle.

The police and ambulance service were called to Gladstone Street, Lemington, just before 6.30pm on Wednesday where they found a person bleeding.

They were treated at the scene before being taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary by ambulance. The seriousness of their injuries are not currently known.

A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called to an address in Lemington at 6.26pm to treat a patient reported to be bleeding after an assault.

"We sent one ambulance crew, the air ambulance and a hazardous area response team.

"We took one patient to the Royal Victoria Infirmary by road ambulance."

Residents in the area reported that the street had been taped off by officers as they investigated the scene.

Pictures show a number of police vehicles parked on the street as well as an ambulance.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police confirmed that they were investigating reports of an assault in the area.
